2012 Wrap Up and 2013 Resolutions

It is that time of year again! Another year has gone by and it is time to look back and see what I did and what I am going to do for 2013.

2012 Wrap up

I started the year like any other year. Dealing with anxiety and depression and all of that stuff. Ever since I was diagnosed with bipolar in 2007 it seemed that every winter and summer too that I would get anxious around 2 pm and it would get worse as the day rolled on and finally I would go to bed exhausted around 7 or 8. Then in Sept. the Dr changed my meds to one that did not cause weight gain and oh my God what a difference it has made. My anxiety was gone and I could stay up all night if I wanted with out feeling as if the world was ending. It was a Godsend. Then I finally admitted that I was having trouble focusing and the dr gave me Strattera an adhd medicine and I could read for hour upon glorious hour. And that exactly what I did. I did not make my reading goal of 100 books because of the first of the year but I read A LOT from September on. I feel confiendent that I can read like this from now on so I am going to set my goal for 2013 for 200 books.

I failed to keep good records of what I read in 2012. I got sidetracked with the new feeling of being able to read for hours then I would forget about the book and it never got reviewed. I finally started making a schedule of my book review to ensure all of my books that I read showed up on my good reads profile and got a review. I aim to continue this for 2013.

In 2012 I finally made the jump to wordpress and I have been so happy with that decision. I love all the things that you can do with wordpress and I feel it has really helped me in my blogging.

I discovered the Pomodoro technique. With my ADHD tendencies this has been a big help with my writing. I was so impressed with it I bought the tomato timer to help support the site.

I read more YA this year than any year of my life. I have to admit at first I was like what could those books offer me? Then I got off my literary high horse and actually started reading the books and I fell in love with the genre. There are a lot of books that deal with issues and I only wish we had those kind of books as I was growing up.

Resolutions for 2013

I read a lot about goal setting this year and one of the things that I have learned is that goals takes will power. And the more you spread your willpower around the less you have to devote to things you really want to accomplish. So I have intentionally kept my goal list short.

Read 200 books this year.

Instead of trying to keep up with all new releases I want to go back to some classics. And read what captures my attention instead of what is hot at the moment. Reading is supposed to be fun. I became kind of stressed trying to keep up with new releases so this year I am going to read what interest me. If the book was from 5 years ago but I never got around to reading it until now so be it.

I have decided to expand this blog to include personal life stuff also. I read some blogs that do that and I really enjoy these types of posts so I am going to incorporate it into my blogging. After all blogging is supposed to be a fun hobby not feel like you are working for free to provided all the latest reviews on the hottest new book.

oh and my one non book resolution is to follow weight watchers to the letter and hopefully lose about 100 pounds this year. That is a lofty goal. Especially for someone who is  as *ahem* as lazy as me. Hopefully that will change this year.
