When I first was told about this book it sounded interesting. The idea of finding Mr. Right in an elevator seems like fate that had put them together. Both characters are African American, and the dude wants to be the richest African American in this country. That sounds like a very good goal to me. Wwould love to be rich. The one thing I loved about the story is that the love interest  (the rich man) did not act annoyingly, but he seemed down to earth. I have to admit that at times, in other books, being risch and having a snooty attitude takes me out of the story if it is not done well.

The biggest issue I have with this book is while the PLOT is very good, the author told the reader instead of showing. However it did not bother me as it would some people. I am very good at deciphering things such as this. It did pull me out of the story a few times. I remember in college a professor once said that if the professor knew that was the best English that person has, then as long as the underlying topic was addressed statifacorily then the professor would just grade based on the IDEA and research. Likewise I feel that with THIS book, all the author needs is a good editor, and it would be fine.

I read this book three times to see if I could figure out if it was just a story or did the book had any hidden meanings.  It has been a long time since I graduated from college, so my reading-between-the-lines skills are a bit rusty, to be honest with you.

What I came up with is that the elevator was a symbol to encompass the relationship building without interference. The whole courtship was in that elevator, and it was til my third time reading that I realized that instead of having other people interfere, the author used the elevator to encompass the most difficult part of progressing to a love relationship. They were brought together by fate, and since they both rode the same elevator every time that eliminated the problem of not seeing each other again, and it forced them to start the conversation. I know if I see someone in the same place every time I am there, and if it was in an enclosed space, I too would start blabbering to cover up the awkwardness. Putting them in an elevator solved a lot of problems and allowed them to slowly get to know each other and develop a relationship.

One other thing, the ending was a bit short..  is as if the couple fell in love, then book says they got married, and that is the end. i thought at first  i missed something then i thought maybe there is a book 2 but nope. Trusty OLE goodreads said that was the only book that was out. I would love to see how their marriage turned out.

All in all, I did enjoy this book. E bare bones of the novel are good; get a strong editor, and all will be well.
