The Tarnsmen Of Gor features a man by the name of Tarl Cabot who vanishes when he goes camping one night. He had always believed himself to be a citizen of Earth but then he is transported to an alternate planet called Gor. This book is a recount of his time spent on Gor.
I have to admit that I came across this book while looking for books that featured BSDM. I came across the term Goran Slave and just had to know what that ment so that followed a few hours of looking up what it ment. Then I realized it was also a sci-fi and space opera book. I was all like must read!! So I requested it from the library. And I was not disappointed. It was all the reviews said it was.
There is this guy Mel Tabot. He leads an uneventful life then he decides to go camping alone in the New England winter. Then he gets delivered a top-secret message. After reading the message saying he will be abducted and brought some place he tries to run but in the end they get him and when he wakes up he is Someplace Else and thus begins his adventures on Gor.
And what Adventures he has! Fans of space operas and Sci-Fi will be delighted with all that happens. It is an action packed book where nothing ever stays still. You think Tarl is a dead man but no, he manages to live and have more adventures. I was glued to my seat the whole time. I read this book in one sitting and then I found out it was the first in a series of 31 whole books!
The world building is excellent. While there are some things that are the same as on Earth, the majority of it is only on Gor. John Norman creates a vivid unique world that readers will have no trouble imagining. This book focuses on the Tarnsmen and I found them to be compelling and delightful. I wish I could transport myself into this world and live it.
