Sunday Salon

A couple of weeks a go I finally got around to installing Google Analytics on my blog. I had heard of how to get ideas from keyword searches and such. Plus it was free so I thought why not? Then today it popped up on my mind to check it and one of the searches was for Amity and Sorrow BSDM.  I had a good laugh and thought what ever gave people the idea that book was related to BSDM? Incest yes, but BSDM haha.

I am forever trying to convince people the joy of reading and I try not to judge on what people read. It was hard in the era of Twilight and 50 Shades, but I managed. I just simply recommend other books that they might enjoy. One of the hardest things I have had to learn was to not make the uppity nose face and just be like yay! you READ!

And I must admit I saw people reading that I never see pick up a book before when 50 Shades came out. Then I had every one telling me what a good book it was. I died a little inside each time but as my library School professor told me, it is not your place to judge it your place to serve. OOOOOKKKKK Then I told people you like 50 shades you may like the Market Place or the Story of O or or or…..

I had people tell me those books were “too hardcore” hmmph. Ahh well at least I tried and people did read them.

Which brings me to another point. I was at the library myself one day, and I wanted a book that would be so scary that it would keep me up nights. So I asked and the Librarian was all like let me check my computer thingie. I was disappointed that she couldn’t just name some books off the top of her head. I know I expect much but if you dont know your books how are you supposed to recommend them? I fear that the true joy of the literary class is a dying breed. I wish that I could be one of the original librarians who enjoyed books for the glory of God and for knowledge and other such things that have gone the way of Alexandria.

And with that I leave you and continue my rant on another day.

Happy Sunday All!

  1. In her defense, Google does make things easier, but as a library assistant, I do try to have some ideas about different genres, even those I don’t read.

  2. So what was the scary book?????
