Everyone has a different definition of what a beach read is. I am no exception. Generally I like to play the intellectual snob and pretend that I only read highbrow literary fiction. However, I do have my “beach reads” that I read when I need a break. These reads I like to think of as brain candy. We all gorge ourselves on junk food time to time, it is the same with books. So without further ado here are what I consider beach reads!
1-Anything by Ann Rule. I find her books fascinating. Often these are crimes that no one else has solved, and it fascinates and appalls me that there is such a thing as a perfect murder.
2.- Anything by Robin Cook- There is something about his medical thrillers book that makes me want to gobble them all up. Although I recently read one of his earlier works, and it was horrible so we will stick with recent Robin Cook works.
3-True Crime books- They are like a car wreck. You don’t want to look but somehow you cant just look away.
4-Chick Lit- Ok I admit I do read these books. My honors English professor in college reacted with horror when he caught me reading a chick lit book. Hey, we cant read Shakespeare ALL the time!
5-Any book with a beach or summer theme- I only like to read these during the summer because if I read them in the dead of winter I will just get mad because I live in Northern Ohio where the winters are long and hard.
6-Pulp Sci Fi- I read an expose on Scientology and I heard that it’s founder L Ron Hubbard was a prolific writer. I was impressed until I read some of his books. He is ok. Nothing to brag about. So I read more authours, and I felt the same. Interesting stories but brain candy.
That’s all I can think of? What do You consider to be beach reads?
