I was reading a book called Cults That Kill (review coming soon) and I became interested in the whole Satanic cult thing. Like I wanted to know WHY people would do that when it gets you a trip to hell and all. I thought about ordering books from the library then I was afraid of what people would think. Then I starting wondering what other stuff I was interested in but afraid to get books on because I don’t want people to think I am a weierd freak or something.
I had a conversation about this with a friend and he said that he felt the same way. Then I started wondering why people are so afraid to know what other people think. I mean. I have a friend who will only read erotica on a kindle because she does not want people to know what she is reading. I have done the same thing. I will get something such as erotica or something like that on my Nook and then when people ask me what I am reading I will lie and make something up. I am also more likely to order it on the Nook for the simple reason that it feels more anonymous that way.
So my question is this, why do we as readers care about stuff like this? I mean is someone want to read The Story of O and have the paperback then why are we so afraid to explain what it is really about? Is there really a stigma against this or is it all in my friends and I head?
Have you ever doe this? What books have you read that you dont want people to know about?
