My Review: I had heard good things about this book for a while. I was eager to read it. At first I was like a boy who kills ghosts. OK. Sounds good. I love me a good ghost story. Especially a FICTION one so that when I get creeped out I can be all like this is FAKE not real. I had a friend who sent me some real life demon books and they scared the crap outta me. I learned that 3 am was the true anti-Christ hour and for DAYS I woke up at that time terrified that top demons were coming to drag me to hell. But that’s another post for another time.
I went in thinking 1) a YA novel couldn’t be that creepy 2) that this author was not the master of horror or anything. I felt safe. Then I started reading. The ghost killing starts in the beginning of the book. I loved the way it was juuuuuust creepy enough but not so much that I would have night terrors. The dude moves around killing ghosts everywhere. He kills one then he moves on to the next one. He hears about this Ghost who has been killing people and decides that he must go put an end to that so off he goes and tracks down the ghost. Now, this could have easily been made implausible, and I am willing to go to great lengths in my disbelief but in this book everything fits. He has his mother and he still goes to school and all of that. So you can picture all of these events unfolding in your head. He is a normal teenager expect for the fact he kills ghosts so you can really relate to him. He faces issues of not fitting in, people picking om him etc. I liked the way he handled these situations as I was bullied myself in school and back then we only had books that had pretty and popular people. Yeah.. I could never relate.
The romance in the book caught me off guard. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but I caught myself going REALLY? Then I thought about it and was why not? True love is true love even though I felt that he was a tad young for it.
There are plot twists that keep you on your toes. There are murders to solve. You think you have it figured out then BAM plot twist. I love a book that can do that. To many people stick with the same tired formula and it gets repetitive at times.
I loved this book and cant wait to read the second book in the series. The ending to the first book left me wondering WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!?! As soon as I get around to reading it I will know.
