I will be linking up to The Sunday Post and What are you Reading posts!
I am typing this up during the readathon. I am in the middle of Roxanne Gay’s HUNGER and OMG it contains a powerful statement regarding how fat people move through a world that glamorizes being thin above all else. I had been thin up until I was diagnosed with bipolar and the combo of meds and self-pity blew me up my highest weight EVAR of 320 pounds. I am in the process of losing weight so I no longer weigh that much but for the year that I did I notice that you get treated a hell of a lot differently than if you said 120 pounds. I will be writing a full review soon so keep an eye out.
I finished listening to Geekerella and it was soooo good. I am glad that nerds are coming back in style. It was a hard few years of being a true nerd and geek and have people look at you weird when you solve a problem or something, and all the ‘cool” dudes are like, really, how did you know that ? And you must have a LOT of time on your hands. Grrrr but yeah this book is pure geek with fandoms and everything. Again will post a review soon
Dollar sales on Kindle books gonna make me homeless. I look at 5 sites for book deals and I see a dollar and I think “1 dollar won’t hurt” Then a friend pointed out that dollar adds up when you buy 100 books. I looked at my finances and I was shocked at how much I have spent on ebooks. No wonder I am almost always broke. I am putting myself on a book buying ban for the rest of the year and just use the library. And actually read all the books I have which would probably last me till I am 90 at the rate I was going.
I was getting tired of not knowing when my library books were due and then not being able to read them cause the whole of North East Ohio is in line for that book and trello wasn’t really helping so since I suck at Exel I tried Airable and I am getting it to work the way I want it. Still tweaking stuff so when I get it to work perfectly I will share the link
I also have been tracking WHERE I get my book recommendations from with the Rock Your Reading Tracker. For this year I am writing down whatever book catches my fancy and how I heard about it. In January I will see who gave good book recs and who sucks. Haha, kidding sorta It seems that I am always reading books that I feel are 1 stars or if I could negative stars. It gets annoying after a while which is why I am SO happy that Sarah made her tracker.
in nonbookish sorta news I thought I had lost my Desire Map planner and that sent me into a panic as it has my life all written down. After three days of futile searching, I finally found it behind my file cabinet. How it got there I would love to know but at least now I have it back!
I have really slacked off going to the gym the past three weeks. I kept telling myself that I will go when my work slows down. Well since I am no longer depressed and have been “networking” and such things are actually picking up. I realized that I am just going to have to make a schedule and fit in everything. Like put my workouts on the calendar and stick to it because I don’t think my work will get any easier schedule-wise until i “retire” so I am going to go back tomorrow and just do like everyone else with a job and suck it up and use my time wisely. It may be time to finally use time blocking. I mean it can’t be any worse than what I do now and that is to type like a mad woman and feel as if I am constantly behind. For this week I am gonna schedule on my calendar my time blocks see if it works.
Hilary, when you’ve always been skinnier and you put a little bit of weight on you feel it more and your harder on yourself. I’ve been 45kg-50kg from the time I was 12-33 and after having my son I’ve put on nearly 15kg, but I’m so glad you are happier with yourself now.
I’ll be checking Geekerella out, glad you enjoyed it.
For library books due date I just use my calendar on my phone and then put a different colour coded on it, and I have it remind me a week before, and when that alarm goes off I then set it for 2 days before. Hope that helps.
Happy reading!
Thank You for the library tip and yes you should def check out geekerella..Tha book was adorable.
When I as first diagnosed with bipolar disorder, the medicines were horrible, they made me want to eat all the time. I just started a new one last week, and it has the opposite effect. I have no appetite. I am horrible when it comes to returning them on time. Hope you have a great week!
I remmy when I was first diagnosed in 2007 they were still using that horrible pill Risperdal. Thank God they are retiring that shit. I have finally found the perfect combination of meds that work for me. I hope you find med that works for you too soon.
It’s hard sometimes to get a workout in. I had a hard time remembering when to return Library books as well and now check them out via Axis 360 or Overdrive online to my Kindle. Have a great week!
I hope you have a great week also!
Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and going on meds made me gain 60 pounds (so far) and who knows if it will keep on going. But I guess I’d rather be sane and chubby than mentally ill and thin.
I’ve been wanting to read Hunger…I really should. Glad you’re enjoying it.
I gained 80 pounds on Risperdal and 50 on Invega… Thank god I am on meds now that doesn’t make u gain weight.
I used to go click crazy on all free or 99c books but now I limit myself to only downloading those I know I will read sooner than later. I feel guilty for having unread books on my Kindle.
i found out about the readathon earlier today…I guess I’ll just have to wait until next time.
Have a great week.
I know what you mean by clicking on allllll the books. My Kindle is almost full. I guess that says a lot lol
I have always been fat with a hankering to be thin!
Enjoy the coming week.
I tried HUNGER but despite me loving the message I found the writing style repetitive and got bored and DNF it but I want to gibe it another try 🙂 Looking forward to your review! I hear you about buying books. I’m able to exercise some restrain with Ebooks but Hardcovers always get me. I recently learned their are some great hardcovers at the dollar stores and it has been down the hill since then LOL Glad to hear you found your planner! I would feel lost without mine to! 🙂 Hope you find your way back to the gym soon and have a great week!
i hope you have a great week also!
Geekerella sounds good. I like the idea of tracking where I get books. I’m bad at that. I do understand about spending more than you think when buying “only $1” books. The “one-click” on Amazon may be my undoing. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Geekerlla was sooo good! I am bad about the one click on Amazon also.
My library emails me three days before books are due. Happy end of the month. Come see what I’m reading.
my library does that also but i always get confused on WHAT books are due and by the time i figure it out it is time to take it back. I am hoping that this spreadsheet will enable me to get to more books.
