Jebediah has a secret that will change his world forever and send his people into space. The Amish world of Alabaster calls upon an ancient promise to escape destruction. Then end up on a cargo ship bound for the stars. But they are not the only cargo on board. Some of it is alive...or used to be. Now, with vampires taking over and closing in on the Amish refugees, these simple believers must decide whether their faith depends upon their honored traditions or something even older.

A couple of weeks ago, I  was scrolling through the Kindle unlimited selections to look for an “escapist” read. I have to admit when I first saw the cover for this book, and I honestly thought it was going to be one of those cheesy sci-fi books and any sci-fi, especially those set in space it an automatic go for me, so I downloaded it and read it all in one sitting, and I was blown away. This most definitely was NOT a cheesy, campy book; it is an excellently written sci-fi novel that blew me away.

A huge problem with Sci-Fi is making the world that the characters live in seems that it COLD be real.  If it is done poorly, then it is harder for tour readers to suspend belief, and we all know if you can’t quite get to the point of believing that could be real, then you have just lost a reader.

And let’s be real..what is the first thing that comes to YOUR mind when you hear Amish Vampires in Space? I thought it was soo funny and I told a friend and all had the same questions..Why would Amish PEOPLE who are not that big of a user of technology be on a spaceship in space and  VAMPIRES?! SERIOUSLY!?

I had to know-how, so I downloaded the book to my kindle (I have kindle unlimited) an started reading, and I learned that book straight through, and the first thought I had after finishing the book was wow the dude who wrote this has got some severe storytelling skillz.

With a title such as Amish Vampires in Space, it would have been super easy to”mess up” the whole story, but the author of the story Kerry Nietz pulled all together to make a BRILIANT Sci-Fi story. One more thing that I love about this book is that some tired ole tropes are common in sci-fi, and I have been reading Sci-Fi for 20 years, and believe me, it was feeling like it was getting quite repetitive in regards to the story plot and stuff like that. Amish Vampires in space was a very present surprise. It oo two stories mixed them up, and out came I genuinely original tale.

I am not a person with a lit of knowledge into Amish Culture, but what I DO know the book put into practice. The Amish were not portrayed in a  negative way lie some authors do. I did not glorify their way o living either.  There were just people following their cultures as best as they can.

I can hear you asking Hillary, where are the Vampires? And that you are going to have to read the book but believe me the “vampires” in this case are and entirely different vampires that we are used too! If like me, you were picturing the vampire of Anne Rice, you will soon learn that there is a   darker story that these vampires are.  It is sort of like that show Stranger Things. On the one hand, you have the “nice” world, but along aside of the nice world, you have another far darker place. That is precisely how the Vampires are in each book.
