Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.    Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.    In his long-awaited return, John Green, the acclaimed, award-winning author of Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza’s story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship.

Wow. Talk about a book that breaks your heat and leaves you with FEELINGS. This was only my second John Green. My first was The Fault in the Stars, and THAT book also broke my heart and left me with feelings for days.

I admit that I was kind of worried when this book was said to be an #ownvocies book. I mean I have heard of people saying that they have a mental illness when they have NO IDEA. I have bipolar, and I am always looking for an accurate representation of mental illness in books. I dunno it makes me feel less alone I guess. So I told myself that even though it was a John Green book not to get my hopes up TOO high.

OMG, This book will make you feel. It will break your heart. I felt like John Green got what it is like to have anxiety right. I could feel stuck in Aza’s head with her along with all of her obsessions and out of control thoughts. I could feel the spiral tightening with every turn the story took.

When I saw there was going to be a couple bent to it, I was worried. So many people try and have someone else save the person with the mental illness from themselves and what is worse is that in these kinds of stories they usually do. A knight in shining armor. John Green must have known that there is no saving in these types of situations. You have to take this ride on what is your life. There is no getting off. I LOVED seeing someone as dysfunctional as me try to be in a relationship. I could see that it was not going to end well, but at the same time, I was rooting for Aza and Davis to make it. I felt that the “romance” was very accurately done especially given the severity of Aza anxiety.

I especially loved the nerdy, geeky parts of the book. It has Star Wars fanfic melts among other geeky stuff. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard them talking about Star Wars I was like OMG A  female NERD LIKE ME!!

This story was pure perfection. There was a twist that I DID NOT see coming in chapter 16. I was so surprised that I let out an OMG earning me weird looks from the people around me. Then there was that one part that will make you cry.

This is going to go on my top 10 list in December.
