Your about page is the first page most people go to after they land on your blog. I know when I first visit a blog that I always hop over to the about page to learn more about the person who is writing it. I love reading about pages and most of the people that I have talked to do also.
An about page tells your audience about you and your blog. The first trick is to keep it relevant. If it is a business blog, then write about yourself and what you do in relation to your business. Don’t go off and talk about how much you love puppies or whatever. I think we all love puppies and puppies are nice but if you are trying to get people to buy into your coaching services then that is wasted space and you run the risk of losing peoples attention.
The second is to make it pop. My favorite about pages are here and here. I love how they use pictures and stuff to tell their story. It can get kind of boring to read the same old thing over and over and over. You want people to be captivated and to want to buy your services.
I always recommend that you put in a way to contact you on the about page. There have been many times I have read an about page and wanted to email someone, but then I had to click to find an email address. More than a few people have lost me this way. And put an ACTUAL way to contact you. An email box or whatever. Not email me at blahblah.com Many people hate copying and pasting.
Use language that you would use for friends. This is not a resume. No need for boring old stuffy language. I don’t know about you but whenever someone starts with that kind of talk I doze off. I probably slept through 40 percent of my college lectures and I am not the only one. Infuse your page with your personality. People want to connect with you. They do not want to listen to someone going on and on and on. Remember in this fast-paced world of today you have about 30 seconds to catch people attention. Make them count.
If your goal is to guide a viewer to do an action, make it clear. Put it in bold letters or make it stand out somehow. You need to show people exactly what you want them to do. Do not depend on them reading your mind. Trust me I have tried that and it never works. When I include a clear call to action though I get responses.
If you follow the above, then you will have an about page that will stand out from the crowd and will get the action that you want
If you need help with your about page, don’t hesitate to email me. I will be more than happy to help you. You can find my email here.
