This book is a behind the scene look at one of the country’s most prestigious hospital. Even though it was written in the 80’s I still found it to be a fascinating look at what goes on in the hospital.
There are stories from every aspect of the hospital. From the gardener to the surgeon we find out what makes a hospital run.
We give drs all the credit for running a hospital but in this book we see that the laundry people and the cooks are just as vital to the everyday operation as the Drs.
This book was written when open heart surgery was just getting underway so we get a fascinating look at the nations most prestigious open heart center. It details how and who get the heart to how the heart transplant is done.
This book also talks about drs dealing with patient death. I always thought that Drs were removed from feelings of grief when a patient dies but after reading this book I fin this is not so. Drs feel grief just like family members do when a patient dies.
I would love to see an updated book on this to see how hospital has changed with the advance of treating AIDS and even the advances in open heart surgery. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I like that it mentions everyone from the gardener to top doctor. A lot of my family work in hospitals and I think this would be fascinating. awesome review:)
