This is a raw gritty book that looks at the underside of America’s belly. Brandon in a series of dead end jobs eventually lands a job at a pest control company. He meets Melanie when he sprays her apartment for bed bugs he is drawn to her. What he don’t know is that Melanie will shake his world upside down. He thinks he met someone who can relate to him but it is obvious from the first night that he gets more than he bargained for. Yet he cant seem to stay away. As he gets deeper and deeper into her antics he becomes convinced that he must find a way out. The final climax will leave you reeling and thinking what the hell just happened.
I love gritty raw books that tell life like it is. Not everyone gets a fairytale ending and this book proves that. It gives us an uncensored look at how blue collar people act and live. There are no pretenses of falling in love and all of that sappy nonsense. The two main Brandon and Melanie come to together more out of convince than anything else. They are just there. Brandon must face her exs and the fact that she gives him an STD. Still even after all of that he gives her a key to her apt. I was thinking to myself if someone gave me an STD I would break it off but Brandon just shrugs and forgives her and that where the crime that almost lands them all in jail occurs. Still Brandon just accepts it. Until Melanie goes missing and he goes to find her. When they do find her it is far worse than any of them imagine.
I felt the ending was gory but it keeps tune with the rest of the book. It was the perfect ending to the cast of characters. I was sad that some had to die a brutal death but that how live goes.
This book kept me glued to my seat. I read it all in one sitting. I did not stop to do anything else. I had to know how everything would play out. The characters will get to you and you will be rooting for them to turn their sad little lives around but in the end that does not happen. I was sad at the ending but like I said before not every story has a fairy tale ending and this is one of them.
