When I decided to give the freelancing thing a go, I was not sure how to start so I went to the library to look up some books. And I found The Wealthy Freelancer. While I don’t expect writing to make me rich, I was intrigued by the title and checked it out.
The first thing that the book does is set you straight. Most people harbor the idea of working for a couple of hours then napping and reading on tropical beaches while a servant fans you and brings you bottomless glasses of margeritas. This book tells you straight off that you have to put in the hours of work to be successful. Which is good because it is true. You might be able to move to a tropical island, but you will be working while you are there.
The Wealthy Freelancer also has some good strategies to how to get started. Which involves marketing yourself to prospective clients. I wasn’t sure how to go about this, but the book goes into detail on how to do this. I found this very helpful. I followed the advice in this book, and it worked! So I can vouch for the method that he proposes.
I found the Wealthy Freelancer so helpful that I went and bought my own personal copy. I know I will be using it all through my career.
