A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!
"Celebrates the resilience of girls and the earthshaking power of their friendships. An eerie, unforgettable triumph." --Claire Legrand, New York Times bestselling author of Furyborn
"Wilder Girls is so sharp and packs so much emotion in such wise ways. I'm convinced we're about to witness the emergence of a major new literary star." --Jeff VanderMeer, New York Times bestselling author of Annihilation
A feminist Lord of the Flies about three best friends living in quarantine at their island boarding school, and the lengths they go to uncover the truth of their confinement when one disappears. This fresh, new debut is a mind-bending novel unlike anything you've read before.
It's been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her.
It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.
But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there's more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.

This was the first book that I read after I decided I was going to read a ton more Sci-fi and Fantasy as those tended to be my “comfort reads”. Plus It seemed that everyone last year was raving about this book so I was triple excited when my hold came in at the library. I had seen other book bloggers say that they were not exactly sure WHAT happened in the story and most of all the ending was…different. I was fortunate I did not see any spoilers so I am just going to wait till you read it and see what YOU think
I am dead serious I NEED to talk about that ending with SOMEONE.
I was almost positive there will be another book just based on that cliffhanger but according to GoodReads, it is a stand-alone book. I read this back in November of 2019 and I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!
I am always pleased when an author SHOWS the world instead of that participating in that horrible info dump that ruins many stories in the Sci-Fi and fantasy books. The world-building was told in a way that makes YOU the reader feel just as lost and confused as the girls in the book I have to say that I felt connected with Hetty. I wanted everything to work out and…I have no idea if it does r, not with that ending.
I still had a hard time wrapping my head around the “Tox”. It is not the bok fault though it is all me and reading to many self-help books. This was the first sci-fi book I have read in a long ass time so my brain was not at all used to suspending disbelief. I finally DID get to the point where my brain decided to corporate and it still was confusing? I may be wrong and if I feel free to email me but having tiny little aliens or bugs or whatever growing out of you seemed a tint bit farfetched. And HOW did the bug/alien get on the island in the first place?
Like I said so many questions
Aside from that non-ending, it was a spectacularly creepy book. perfect reading for Halloween.
